This wooden sculpture, carved from the trunk of a tree, commemorates Spanish explorer and conquistador, Juan Ponce de León. In this sculpture, the explorer is shown searching for the Fountain of Youth, as he had during his expeditions, with youth being represented by the multicultural figures, hiding from him and emerging from the tree’s voluminous trunk.
